Content of Newspaper Articles from Episode 3.2 of Sherlock
As part of helping Team Ariane with checking over
arianedevere's transcript of the second episode of series 3 of Sherlock, I zoomed in and transcribed all of the newspaper articles and obituaries that were shown. In the interest of relevance and space concerns, the decision was made not to include them in the full transcript, but I'd like to provide them here in case anyone's interested. They're kind of fun.

BANK GANG
LEAVE COPS
CLUELESS
EXCLUSIVE
by Robbie Fraser
The future of Scotland Yard's chief is once again plagued with uncertainty after one of the most audacious robberies in the capital's history failed to provide any leads.
The investigation, Detectives admit, has stalled after only a matter of day (sic) and the Forensic Science Service have been unable to provide the investigators with any meaningful evidence.
DCI Lestrade looked visibly shaken and tense at a press conference that disintegrated into a farce as he was unable to provide any meaningful answers.
(The above sentence is then repeated.)
The lack of any worthwhile leads is a cause for serious embarrassment for the Yard, and Lestrade is bearing the public brunt of this utter failure.
The taxpayer-funded shambles is another slap to the public face, as career criminals can walk in and out of banks, taking our money with impunity.
While any decent citizen would expect the Police Force to deal with such a massive crime with an iron determination and winged speed, the sordid truth is that they are not fit for purpose. (sic)
As the Police scramble blindly for more clues, the perpetrators of this daring heist are tonight laughing into their chompers, quaffing their caviar between chortles of mirth, splitting their sides at the utter ineptitude of DCI Lestrade and his team.
To measure it in football terms, this ??g are Accrington Stanley. Who are they? Exactly!
After the shambolic press conference, we got in touch with the lily-livered keystone cops to try and find out for you, our readers, what exactly was going to be done about this criminal blight.
And they did get back to us. You won't believe what they said.
We are unaware as to our next move.

2. The article on the internet that Sherlock is reading the morning after the stag night, before John comes in:
V.C. Hero – The Unanswered Questions. Why did my boy have to die?
by Laurie Norris
Major James Sholto. A name both revered and reviled. A deservedly-decorated war hero? Or a murderer?
Madeline Small, 52, believes the latter. "That man was responsible for the death of my Peter. He destroyed my family." Sitting in her small flat in Barking, East London, Madeline cuts a lonely figure. Surrounded by photographs of happier times, she sips at her tea and her eyes glaze over as she remembers the 18 year old boy she waved off one Sunday morning two years before. "And that's what he was. He was a boy. Just a boy who wanted to serve his country and then that man..." She trails off and tears form in her eyes. Tears of both grief and anger.
(Here there is a photograph of Major Sholto standing outside in full sunlight in front of what looks like an armoured tank. He has on a black beret with a medal pinned on it. He is wearing a camouflage shirt.)
...is day, she can barely bring herself to say the name of the man she believes to be responsible for the death of...
3. The obituaries in the newspapers Sherlock pages through during the interview with the women. Of particular note in these is the fact that the same obituaries are shown repeatedly in different newspapers, and that some of the material is duplicated amongst different obituaries. In one obituary, the sons of the deceased are named Benedict and Martin. There are also three notices signed by Marty, Sue and Mark (Martin Freeman, Sue Vertue and Mark Gatiss, possibly?) and two of the venues named for the funerals are St. Martin's and 'the Benedict' (unfortunately the text cuts off there). There are also quite a few typos, which I'm not sure is due to an effort at realism or because these weren't proofread very well. They really do only flash on the screen for a couple of frames, so I'm sure they weren't expecting anyone to actually read them.
This one flashes by literally for one frame and I believe therefore was probably meant to be cut out entirely, especially as it duplicates the text of another obituary nearly word for word:

has died of natural causes. Once seen
as a rising light in the Conservative
party, his nosedived (sic) in 1986 when,

him out of the party and his attempts
to stand as an independent candidate
failed. He moved into the world of
banking, working for Lloyds until the
time of his death. He leaves behind
his partner of 20 years.
