Translation Fic: Lucifer's Gardens (Sherlock/John, Explicit)
Title: Lucifer's Gardens (link to AO3)
Author: ampersand_ch

swissmarg
Rating: Explicit
Word count: 32,683
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: John goes undercover for an investigation as a favour to Lestrade in a village in Suffolk. The events surrounding the case awaken deep-seated fears in Sherlock. While John begins to come to a realisation of what he needs in Lucifer's Gardens, Sherlock tries to find a way to reach John – in more ways than one.
=======
Set in Bury St Edmonds – for the most part in an old manor house with secrets in the attic, poison gardens, and an exclusive male social club that’s probably the opposite of the Diogenes in every possible way – this fic sees John as the investigatory lead and doing quite a good job of it. It takes us on a fascinating psychological, emotional, and mystical journey that uncovers old wounds, inflicts new ones, and eventually shows the way to healing and a new life for John and Sherlock. I was especially intrigued by the Jungian masculine archetypes and the fact that the solution to the case doesn’t go in a straight line, but rather past many dead ends, double blinds, and secret passageways. This does go to some difficult places but as always the destination is worth the journey. With beautiful hurt/comfort (Sherlock being the comforter this time), a gorgeous inside look at Sherlock’s mind palace, a startling reveal, mysterious birds, and a neat twist on the undercover-as-boyfriends trope.
