I can't remember the name or author of the fic, but I do remember reading one that involved John being led to an app or web site where a person could get questions about them selves answered and it turned out to be Sherlock running it, and it was just set up so that he could reveal that he was alive and back. It also turned out that Sherlock wasn't as fantastic a hacker as he imagined, and so he had to set up a live surveillance and answered John's questions by spying on him and answering his questions. This popped into my head the minute I saw the DVD content. And recall when John said "Don't be dead." and Sherlock on the dvd said "Okay" and John looked up surprised. And then when John paused it to go to the door, it didn't stay paused, he winked anyway. I imagine that Sherlock broke into Lestrade's office and replaced the original dvd with one of his own making. And that the dvd had a program on it that would fire up a persons web cam so he could respond to John live. Anyway, its a nice thought.
