You do bring up some good points on the rarer characters, and some pairings that I didn't think of off hand. For me personally, I don't like male slash, so I'm a bit more limited in available characters for what I will request/read.
But yes - I definitely think 'sexy' is a big part of why Blacks and Malfoys are preferred.
