Some thoughts: The number of participants was capped at 75, otherwise I'm pretty sure there would have been a lot more. If you notice, though, the number of gifts adds up to 76. This is because [livejournal.com profile] luvscharlie received 2 gifts, as did [livejournal.com profile] siriuslysnogged, and there was one gift for the community, meaning that one person dropped out. [livejournal.com profile] glockgal and [livejournal.com profile] glitter_pink both created 2 art gifts. I think that should make the numbers come out even again.

Okay, so. Wow. Smut. And het smut at that. Lots and lots of het smut. Not everyone went whole hog with it though, meaning that there were also quite a few R-rated gifts. 61% of the art was rated R, and 22% of the fics (not including the 'hard R' ones; if you include them, then it's 30%). Once again, I'm guessing it's easier to write about all those body parts than to draw them. ;-)

The words counts displayed a wide range, with no one skirting the lower limit of 1,000 words too closely. Most people wrote over twice as much as the minimum, although about half the fics (52%) were still shorter than 5,000 words. For the two-month writing period, though, there was a nice number of longer fics, with one person nearly hitting the 30K mark.

Even though this is a het exchange, so there must be about an equal number of females and males, it is still clear that there were favorites, and I was surprised to find two out of the top three, and four out of the top seven most popular characters to be female. The ratios decline after that, with only 6 out of the top 14, 9 out of the top 21, and 13 out of the top 29. What this means is that there were simply fewer female characters used than males, and that those few females were used more often to make up the het couples. This makes sense, as there are more filled-out canon male characters than female ones.

The promiscuity of the characters is generally in line with their popularity, with a few exceptions. Draco, for instance, is only the fourth most popular character, yet the second most promiscuous. This means that in the 10 gifts in which he is featured, he has 9 different partners. The cad. Ginny, on the other hand, the second most popular character, is only the 6th most promiscuous. This is because she is often paired with the same males (Harry, Bill).

Which leads us into the most popular pairings. The canon pairing of Harry/Ginny ended up being the clear favorite, with nearly 10% of the gifts. The next most popular pairings only garnered 5% or less of the gifts. Still, the fact that even the most popular pairing only came up 10% of the time means that this was a very diverse fest, with plenty of different canon, non-canon, and could-be-canon pairings (and threesomes).

Speaking of favorites, pairings with characters of Harry's generation were by far the most popular, with 68% of the pairings. Cross-gen pairings were a very distant second, with only 15%. The older generation were basically shut out. There was only one gift -- a picture -- featuring an older pairing, namely Voldemort/Sibyll (and it was specifically deemed a crack pairing). I guess old folks aren't into teh secks?

It might look like the Next Gen got a nice little slice of lovin', but 5 of those 6 gifts were Scorose. Likewise with the Marauders' generation, 3 of the 6 gifts were James/Lily -- and a fourth involved Lily being unfaithful while James watched. To be sure, several of the cross generational pairings involved the Next Gen or the Marauders' gen (and sometimes both, as in Severus/Lily Luna). Still, it seems that the participants this year were mostly interested in young characters they know well.
