Some thoughts:
For the first time, genfic was allowed in this fest, putting it in fairly direct competition with
springtime_gen. The two fests ended up with fairly even numbers of participants, with only five authors writing for both (including myself). And, in the end very few authors (or perhaps requesters) ended up going for the gen option for the
hp_spring_fling. Interestingly, however, 2 of the 3 genfic authors were also participants in
springtime_gen , and there was a third dual fest author whose fic was also mostly gen, although I felt it had enough of a focus on the (off-screen) pairing that I counted it as slash.
The ratings for this fest looked more like a typical pairing fest, with 40% of the fics rated R or higher. Still, the most popular rating was PG-13, which may have been influenced by the genfic option.
I was surprised that het was so clearly dominant, with nearly 3/4 (73%) of the fics.
The word counts were quite typical, with the bulk of the fics in the lowest range, with a very thin tail going up to 8,500 words and then one single fic that was nearly twice as long as that. (Perhaps interesting to mention that the long one was a Harry/Draco fic.)
There was not really a single most popular pairing, although it's interesting to note that Draco ended up in two of the three pairings/threesomes that were featured more than once, as did Hermione.
Despite that, Draco was only the third most popular character, with both Harry and Hermione edging him out for that honor. Ron, the third member of the Trio, did not make it into any fics, except as a brief mention here and there.
I happened to notice that there were no characters of color featured in any fics at all. There was also heavy favoritism shown to the characters of Harry's era, although the Marauders-era characters were also featured in a few fics. There was only one Next Gen fic, and no fics featuring characters of the older generation.
