Commenting can be a tricky business. I usually leave a comment at the end if I've enjoyed the fic, but since I download everything longer than 10K that I read from AO3, that means I have to specifically go back and find the fic in order to comment, and sometimes it slips past. And I often forget to leave a kudo, especially if I leave a comment. I figure the comment is more appreciated anyway. So I'm probably messing up people's statistics. I do try to respond to every comment on my fics, though, even anons. But I understand that authors who get a thousand comments on a fic can't do that. And I admit that when I see a fic already has hundreds and hundreds of comments, or was completed a couple of years ago, I think the author probably isn't following it anymore or doesn't care so much, or I won't be able to say anything that isn't exactly the same as what hundreds of other commenters have already said, so I may not leave a comment. Like I said, it's all so tricky.
