Benedict Cumberbatch in those glasses at TIFF (here are a few photos, scroll down) reminds me a lot of my dad:

William Pattison, ca. 1950s 001

In fact I think those are the exact same frames. :p Anyone else getting a 1950s vibe? Also, is BC's hairline receding?

Exhibits A and B:

I'm voting yes. Although his father still has a fairly strong hairline, assuming he doesn't wear hairpieces.

If you ever meet Benedict, you can tell him that your dad used to wear glasses exactly like he does! :DDDDD

I cannot look at those pics of him with those glasses and not think of this one person on my dash on Tumblr who sells glasses for a living - she keeps complaining that these don't fit Benedict's head at all (see how the earpiece is too high?). :) (Or maybe she just complained once and the post gets reblogged a lot...) Anyway. :)

I think I'll go with the fourth theory: your dad lending Benedict his glasses.

*faints*

Seriously laughing at the guy on the right (http://wpmedia.arts.nationalpost.com/2014/09/film_tiff_the_imitation_game_20140909_34080645.jpg?w=940&h=688).

His hairline is not receding. Benedict just has a huge forehead.

Ah yeah, I suppose I know what you mean, I always thought he had a widow's peak but then there's also little curves on the sides which is usually indicative of that. I DON'T FIND IT UNATTRACTIVE EITHER.

I believe that balding/recession issues come from the mother's side, so the person to look at would be his maternal grandfather. Er. Because you wanted a biological explanation. I actually used to know all the genetic factors that went into balding patterns, but I cannot remember them... but I do have a vague memory of the maternal line defining whether a boy has hair loss or not.

IMO looking at the picture, either his hairline is receding, or he's combing it in a different way that just emphasizes the pattern of his hair...

The black frames are not the choice I would have made for him, but I wonder if he bought them partially to stay in keeping with the image of Turing? But then my frames are purple and have rhinestones (I'm also old.)

His hairline is moving back at a gentle pace for a 38 yr old. :) My husband, 44 and also a curly head, likes to grab his hair and pull back to critique his own hairline. So vain. :)

I love how in these shots Adonis Cumbergod's lovely ginger curls are given free rein and haven't been dyed weird shades --do you reckon this is his natural color or is it possible to know? One of my favorite moments in August Osage County is when his character needs to comb his hair and is handed a pitiful plastic comb that is woefully inadequate to the task. :)

The Tiff commentator's snide comment about David Cronenberg made me howl with laughter. :D

PS in that young pic you added he looks so much like his mom it is shocking. :D

I am one of those who was 100% in favor of Wanda and Tim playing Sherlock's parents. :)

Hairline- Hard to say. He is growing into his mature middle age face. His face is longer and broader, so his hairline may be the same but his forehead is bigger.

I don't know who is cuter, Benedict or your dad :):) The glasses pictures are superb--thanks for sharing.

I have long thought that his hairline is slowly receding, so we're in agreement. My husband has the typical male pattern baldness and I think he's the handsomest man I know, so Cumbergorgeous has nothing to fear, imo.

They really are your dad's glasses! And, by a weird confidence, almost exactly like my distance glasses. But I got mine first! Well, not before your dad.

The glasses are similar, but for some reason I am getting a Mark Gatiss vibe off of your dad's photos more than a Benedict similarity. I'm honestly not sure why - the ears, perhaps? Still, there's a familial resemblance going on there that seems quite appropriate.

Oh, that's so funny!

Add me to the list of people who think he didn't get glasses that fit him right (BC I mean, not your dad). It's the sides, like he's wearing them oddly b/c when they're where they're supposed to be, they hurt. I imagine someone as busy as him hasn't had time to go back to the store for an adjustment.

My glasses actually did that -- I had to drive back in just to get them to bend the earpieces more comfortably. Then something else felt odd and I had to go back AGAIN. Glasses aren't an exact science.

Not sure about the hair. I want to say it's just the style he favors now, that slicked-back stuff. But he is on the downhill slope to 40...(joining me, LOL!).

Even as I was typing the word, I guessed that you probably never heard it.

Our server at the office is down... the internet works... e-mail works... but the rest? Nada.
So I'm sitting here, twirling my thumbs and try not to think to hard about all the ironing at home *le sigh*
