My holiday gift to you, all of my fellow Johnlock fans, dedicated readers, and loyal followers:

24 recs for Johnlock Christmas fics

If I'd been more organized I could have posted these once a day, but it's nice to have them all together too. Many of these are oft-recced perennial favorites, but I hope you'll find something new in here as well.

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season, however you may celebrate (or just enjoy a few days off work or school) and I'm looking forward to sharing more Johnlocky goodness with you in 2015.

And now for the recs, in alphabetical order:

1. A Less Traveled Christmas (12730 words) by verityburns
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Extra to 'The Road Less Traveled': Sherlock and John's first Christmas together, set around six months after John's 'Resolution' to the main story, and eighteen months before Mycroft's 'On The Road' Epilogue. Will not make sense on its own!

2. A Sherlock Carol (17387 words) by Jellybean728
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: This was based on a prompt at one of the Sherlock Holmes kink memes, to rewrite A Christmas Carol with the cast of Sherlock. Assume a post-Reichenbach/post-Empty House reunion, although not exactly a BBC canon compliant world.

3. A Telling Touch (91663 words) by MiyakoToudaiji
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Post-Reichenbach. After Sherlock’s death, John manages to get himself re-enlisted and is sent back to war. But when two series of gruesome murders link home and outland together, John is suddenly faced with more battles than he could have imagined. A Reunion, multi-chapter, case fic.

4. Absentminded (56381 words) by ScopesMonkey
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: With the Christmas season right around the corner, Sherlock is called in to investigate the case of a man whose assault has left him without his memory.

5. as many names as snow (34970 words) by greywash
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Molly Hooper/Greg Lestrade, Irene Adler/Harry Watson, Anthea/Mycroft Holmes, Mike Stamford/OFC
Summary: Twenty-six days, twelve characters, eight or ten storylines, four romances, three cities, two sets of rings, and a spare hot shag: a largely areligious advent calendar set in the same universe as and after "the sensation of falling as you just hit sleep" and "in deed accomplish our designs". (Reccer's note: Will not make sense without having read those first.)

6. Christmas OTP Challenge (11109 words) by cypress_tree
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: A collection of 25 drabbles, one per day, leading up to Christmas. A secular advent calendar, I suppose. Each one stands alone. They're sort of connected, but aren't meant to be chronological.

7. Footmarks on the Ceiling (21725 words) by mycake
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Mary Morstan/John Watson
Summary: John Watson is leaving and Sherlock cannot cope. He has but one wish and that is to have John back. However, when Sherlock is granted his wish and is cast into a dream world where John has returned to him, it isn't exactly what he had hoped for. Be careful what you wish for.

8. For the Shopping List You Always Lose (11281 words) by stardust_made
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes & John Watson
Summary: As their first Christmas as flatmates approaches Sherlock and John are trying to make sense of their expectations of it, and of each other.

9. Goodness Gives Extras (39629 words) by mydwynter
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Christmas time. 'Tis the season to settle down with a drink, some food and a present or two, and to enjoy the quiet relaxation of the holiday. Instead, there's a case that drags them all over, missing presents, disappointed kids, angry parents, and a freak snowfall. On top of that John has to deal with Sherlock, who is being even more of a prat than usual. He really shouldn't have expected anything different.

10. Holmes for the Holidays (10890 words) by moonblossom
Rating: General Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Mycroft Holmes/Greg Lestrade
Summary: Sherlock and Mycroft drag John and Greg back to the ancestral pile for Christmas.

11. John Watson's Twelve Days of Christmas (53464 words) by earlgreytea68
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: It's the holiday season. John Watson needs money. Sherlock Holmes needs something else.

12. Never-Ending Cycle (17211 words) by orphan_account
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Or, four times Sherlock Holmes attempted to propose to John Watson, and the Christmas Party at which he finally did. Sherlock thinks he's a miserable failure, John is confused, Mrs. Hudson and Lestrade provide some unsatisfactory advice, and Mummy is, as always, the solution. All in a lovely, fluffy holiday theme.

13. On the Table (Eventually John Watson's Favorite Christmas Story) (18135 words) by emmagrant01, numberthescars
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Set after TRF. Someone's leaving John strange little gifts in the weeks before Christmas. But who could it be? (A bit of fluff, a touch of angst, a dash of smut, some holiday cheer – enjoy!)

14. Our Enthusiasms Which Cannot Always Be Explained (32961 words) by withoutawish
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: The list that is tacked haphazardly on the refrigerator of 221B reads, ‘Kidney(s), and/or a full cadaver (preferably male, late 30s, under six feet tall), bag of fresh toes, sixteen cow’s eyes (corneas retained), dual exhaust hand –held flame thrower, an unopened first edition copy of Joseph Conrad’s 'Heart of Darkness', and no less than ten abhorrently gruesome murders in the upcoming month.” The one neatly hanging next to it simply reads, “Sex.” One of these lists is not John Watson’s. If John Watson were to put what he really wanted in list form, to live in a land somewhere beyond ‘almosts' now that Sherlock Holmes has indeed returned to him, he would never be able to look his flatmate in the eye ever again.

15. Pax americana (109267 words) by emmadelosnardos
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: "There is a very thin line between that which kills and that which heals." As John is preparing to leave 221B, Sherlock forces his hand with a surprise trip to NYC. But will Sherlock ever understand sentiment? Will John trust Sherlock not to harm him? Started 12/22/11, incorporates parts of S2. Pre-Reichenbach.

16. Sherlock and the Three Visitors (4570 words) by roane
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: "Sherlock Holmes hated Christmas to begin with."

17. The Baker Street Nativity (99662 words) by SwissMiss
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Fusion between Sherlock (BBC) and Nativity! (2009 movie starring Martin Freeman). Sherlock is a primary school teacher and John is assigned to be his classroom assistant. Together, they are charged with putting on the school's Nativity play. What could possibly go wrong?

18. The Diary of a Young Omega (30451 words) by corpsereviver2
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Mycroft Holmes/Sally Donovan
Summary: Sherlock Holmes, a young Omega, aged sixteen, is encouraged to keep a diary as such genteel activities are good discipline for the mind, soothing for the body, and encouraging of other Omega-appropriate pastimes until such time as his parents secure him an appropriate Alpha mate. That's the theory, anyway.

19. The Season of Scars and of Wounds in the Heart (10341 words) by cold_feets
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: A look at various Christmases Sherlock and John have each had through the years. It's about family, for better or worse, and all the different ways one comes to define family. It's not a love story, though they do eventually fall in love. It's not even really a Christmas story, but rather a story that just happens to look at their lives during the holiday season. Sometimes things are wonderful. Sometimes they aren't. Life, as always, goes on regardless.

20. The Twelve Clues of Christmas (10853 words) by prettysailorsoldier
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Molly Hooper/Mike Stamford
Summary: John sends Sherlock on a Christmas scavenger hunt through London, and Sherlock doesn't ENTIRELY hate it, but where will they be at the end?

21. Their Great Reward (10095 words) by BeautifulFiction
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Boxing day, in John's opinions, is the worst day of the year. Christmas is over, the tree is wilting and stripped of gifts, and there's a week of dead-time until the clean slate of the new year. However the combination of a blizzard, a power-cut and Sherlock might just make it a day to remember. (John and Sherlock pre-slash to slash fluff)

22. Winter's Delights (21173 words) by Kate_Lear
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Sherlock takes John home for Christmas to meet the extended Holmes family.

23. Wonderful, Etcetera. (16955 words) by VictoryCandescence
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, past Sherlock Holmes/Victor Trevor
Summary: Sherlock thinks everyone would be better off if he had never existed, including and especially himself. When he finds himself in a world in which his wish has been granted, he begins to think perhaps even he could be wrong – but it takes an unlikely chaperone to make him not only observe, but understand.

24. You're On the Air (20616 words) by prettysailorsoldier
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: Prompt: Matchmaker!Sherlock & Assistant!John. Sherlock keeps John as his assistant since he knows a few things about love/sex that Sherlock doesn't know/fully understand (Three Continents Watson) and that could lead to possible matches since Sherlock only uses chemical and natural body reactions to determine who to match-make and so on (pupils dilate, quick heartbeat, body language...). - anon. The Consulting Detective and The Woman dominate the airwaves of their university radio station, doling out advice on everything from meeting the parents to sexual positions. When their ratings start to dip before the holidays, however, manager Mike thinks it's time for some fresh blood, and who better to fill in the gaps than rugby captain--and notorious flirt--John Watson?

Edit 22 Dec 2014:
Plus Bonus #25: Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Missing Christmas Spirit (15002 words) by SilentAuror
Rating: Mature
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Summary: John hates Christmas. So does Sherlock, but he suggests that they do Christmas "properly" this year to see if they can't track down its elusive magic and discover for themselves what Christmas is supposed to be about.

Oooh, thank you so much for this! I've read a few of these, but others I've missed, and I'm delighted to have more holiday-themed reading material. :)

I've been working my way through these, and I've enjoyed so many of them. I had read a few, but the rest have been delightful so far. "Winter's Delights" (and the related tales) was absolutely wonderful, as was "Holmes for the Holidays."
