Some thoughts: I think it's great that this fest worked out so well without any prompts or the pressure of needing to create fanworks for someone else. Everything that was created was really made from someone's heart and their own love for Lucius Malfoy, and that's pretty special.
All ratings were represented, although the ratings did tend toward the high end, with 64% of the fics and 57% of the overall contributions rated R or above. However, not all of those high ratings were for sex; a couple of the R ratings were for violence.
I was pleasantly surprised to see so many gen fics for this fest, with nearly half of the fics not focusing on a romantic relationship (although many of the 'gen' fics did contain pairings). Of those featuring a pairing, Hermione was the heavy favorite to pair with Lucius, with Narcissa a fairly close second. There were only 3 fics with slash, and all of them paired Lucius with Severus. There were also only two fics that paired Lucius with someone other than those three (Hermione, Narcissa, Severus), and in both of them, Lucius was also paired with one of the three. In other words, all of the non-gen creations for this fest paired Lucius with either Hermione, Narcissa, and/or Severus. That seems a bit limiting, or maybe the artists and authors were relying on what they know best.
The word counts were quite spread out. Given that there was a creation period of over 6 months, I might have expected at least one very long fic (over 30K, possibly even over 50K), but it didn't happen. There were also no drabbles, although they would have been allowed, except for one set of 26 100-word drabbles, but since that set actually made a larger story, I counted it as a single 2600-word fic. I guess that people thought if they were bothering to enter the challenge, they should write something more than a short drabble.

I know personally, several authors that tried to creat longer works, but chose instead to keep things simpler due to RL issues. A lot of these authors had never written a Lucius fic, and so relied on characters/situations they knew to be familiar in order to tell the story they wanted. I honestly don't see this as being limited, not if it allows authors to write a character they normally wouldn't have in the past.
We appreciate the masterlist. Thank you.

Date: 2010-11-07 03:52 pm (UTC)Re length - I always think of 'Big Bangs' as the place for 20k+ fics and initially was put off signing up until the bar was dropped - In the event it should have got a much longer fic from me, if I hadn't had three other commitments over the same period.
But the whole experience has been very inspirational.
