HP Kink Fest Stats

hp_kinkfest has completed posting and put up their master list. It actually went quicker than I thought it would to do, despite the larger number of submissions, since the master list was so nice and complete. :)
Those of you who already had a peek, I've now added a few small corrections and additions, as well as my analysis and thoughts, so have another look:

Some thoughts: Wow! There sure are a lot of kink-loving fans out there! The most impressive thing to me is that this is a self-posting fest, with no pressure to complete. And still, 74 people got all their stuff together and posted within the time frame, many of them multiple times. I don't think I've seen another fest where there were so many multiple entries by so many people.
The art ratio was a bit low: I would have expected somewhere nearer 20% actually, based on the amount of art that gets posted in other fests (hp_yule_balls had 24%, smutty_claus 21%, mini_fest even had 30%), but maybe it is harder to draw 'kinks' than 'vanilla' romance.
Another slight oddity is that the art was not lower rated on average than the fics. Overall, there was a definite favoritism shown for smut, although it wasn't necessary, and one artist even managed to portray a PG kink.
The word counts, commensurate with a wide range of creation periods, were quite broad, ranging from short drabbles to nearly Big Bang-length chaptered fics (I know that some Big Bangs accept 10,000 or 15,000 words and up, but for me 'Big Bang' length starts at 20,000). Still, 18,000+ words in two and a half months is awesome... and in fact, one of the two long fics was posted in the first week of the fest, meaning it was written and beta read in only 6 weeks!
There was a definite 'hump' from 1,000 - 3,000 words, with nearly half (48%) of the fics in that range. It's also interesting that 8,000 words seemed to be some sort of cap, with only three longer fics starting at 10,000 words.
The most popular characters were also interesting, with a Next Gen character (Scorpius) making it into the top ten for I believe the first time in a large fest not focusing specifically on the Next Gen. The Weasleys also had a strong showing, with three family members (Ron, Charlie, Ginny) in the top ten, and Bill and James II having multiple lead roles as well. All of the Malfoys/Blacks were likewise strongly favored, with Draco taking the number 2 spot, Lucius and Scorpius at number 4, and Narcissa, Bellatrix and Sirius also having multiple leads.
Still, I continue to be fascinated by the fact that Harry is so popular. He never really interested me as a fandom character, to be honest. But he continues to be the most popular in fest after fest. Obviously, there's something about him that continues to spark people's imagination.
Maybe part of that is the dynamic between Harry and certain other characters; Draco Malfoy, for instance. Draco/Harry was the most popular pairing, and several other Harry pairings and threesomes were among the favorites for this fest. Including, strangely, three submissions featuring Harry/himself. There was also one involving Draco/himself, making this the first fest I've seen with so much recursive love. Not even counting the solo depictions. One more interesting little tidbit is that among the threesomes, Draco/Harry was the most popular base, with 5 different threesomes built on them, both het and slash.
Slash was the clear favorite for this fest, with over half (55%) of the pairings/threesomes. Het had 37%, and femmeslash a mere 5%. I was impressed that one artist actually submitted a gen piece that still displayed a kink (Trixie Locket's Borgin & Burkes Catalogue, Winter 1999).
I wish I could have done statistics for which kinks were the most popular, but it would have involved too much work, even with the help of the wonderful Kink Table provided by the mods. Maybe someone else will have a free weekend to tabulate results for that. ;-)
Overall though, one of the more interesting fests I've looked at, much love to the mods and participants for all their hard work!
