Fest community:
mwpp_mischief
Master List: Flash round
Fest type: Drabble prompt response
Premise: Marauders and/or Lily drabbles
Ratings restrictions: All ratings allowed
Length restrictions: 500 words maximum, no minimum
Creation period: 2 weeks
There were 16 drabbles submitted by 11 authors.
Most prolific drabblers:
charlieschulz ,
perilousgard - 3 drabbles each
gmariam - 2 drabbles
By rating:
G - 3
PG - 9
PG-13 - 1
R - 3
By word count:
The shortest drabble was 233 words. The longest drabble was 830 words.
2-3C - 2
3-4C - 4
4-5C - 4
5-6C - 5
6C+ - 1
Most popular characters:
(By number of times listed as a lead in a header):
James, Lily, Sirius - 5 each
MWPP* - 4
Harry, Regulus - 2 each
*There was one drabble which listed all four Marauders separately instead of lumping them together as 'MWPP'. I counted that as MWPP rather than as four individual leads.
Most popular pairings:
(By number of times listed as the main pairing in a header):
James/Lily - 3
James/Remus, Remus/Sirius - 2 each
By alignment:
(Some drabbles had more than one pairing.)
Het - 6
Gen - 6
Slash - 5
Some thoughts: Very interesting how the ratings turned out, with nothing higher than R, and 75% of the drabbles rated PG or less! I will be interested to see how the main fest ratings turn out, and whether they are similar.
The word count requirement was quite restrictive, but 38% of the submissions went over the official maximum. Caveat: A few were just a few words over, and may be accounted for by a slight variation in the word count function of different word processors. Only one clearly and knowingly exceeded the suggested maximum, but the author 'regretted' doing so. :)
With so few characters to choose from, it's not surprising that there was no clear favorite. Still, I found it interesting that many authors chose to include all of the Marauders, rather than focusing on just one or two. Also the fact that Harry and Regulus, two non-Marauders, made it into the top 5 characters.
Of the most popular pairings, one was canon and another pseudo-canon (Remus/Sirius). The fact that James/Remus made it into the top 3 is intersting, but then with only 2 drabbles it doesn't say all that much.
What I do find telling is the distribution of het, slash, and gen in this round. Although all of the Marauders are male, and there is plenty of slash love for them, het ended up being the most popular alignment. With only one female included in the group (Lily), that's pretty impressive. She was paired not only with James, but with Severus and Sirius as well. There was also one fic that included Peter paired with an OFC.
Also interesting was the amount of gen fic, indicating to me that a lot of the appeal of the Marauders is in their interaction with each other as friends and co-conspirators.
