I've put subtitles onto the Sherlock series 3 Christmas mini-episode, Many Happy Returns. I am indebted to [livejournal.com profile] arianedevere for her transcript, and [livejournal.com profile] chamekke for help with theTibetanat the beginning.

Also, screencaps by [livejournal.com profile] pineapple_sky can be found here.

Edit: As of 15 January 2014, this video has been blocked by YouTube because of copyright claims by the BBC. It looks like they've shut down all of the videos posted of the Christmas mini-episode. I've put it up on Videobam here instead: http://videobam.com/uBtOq

Thanks for that. Cleared up some of the mumbling. I am right in thinking the video was a live feed, meant to appear as an old tape. Is that how everybody else saw it?
That Sherlock had replaced the old DVD in Lestrade's office with some kind of program that opened up John's internet access.
Freeman just kills in this. As does Anderson.

I can't remember the name or author of the fic, but I do remember reading one that involved John being led to an app or web site where a person could get questions about them selves answered and it turned out to be Sherlock running it, and it was just set up so that he could reveal that he was alive and back. It also turned out that Sherlock wasn't as fantastic a hacker as he imagined, and so he had to set up a live surveillance and answered John's questions by spying on him and answering his questions.
This popped into my head the minute I saw the DVD content. And recall when John said "Don't be dead." and Sherlock on the dvd said "Okay" and John looked up surprised. And then when John paused it to go to the door, it didn't stay paused, he winked anyway.
I imagine that Sherlock broke into Lestrade's office and replaced the original dvd with one of his own making. And that the dvd had a program on it that would fire up a persons web cam so he could respond to John live.
Anyway, its a nice thought.

It reminded me of a fic I read where Sherlock revealed himself to John through an app, only it was Sherlock spying on him and responding live.

I could see Sherlock breaking into Lestrades office and replacing the dvd with a copy that has a program in it to open up the web cam, or simply having a web cam in the flat and responding to him from Baker Street in real time. There is a momentary change in scene from the wall paper to sitting in the chair. That could be when the change is made. That would explain how when John said "Don't be dead" Sherlock could say "Okay". And how when John hit pause, Sherlock paused for a moment and then winked anyway.
Or it could have been Sherlock at the door.

Thank you for doing this for the fandom. I'm sure there are fans whose first language is not English, and this will make it clearer.

Love the *headdesk*.

Now I am wondering what Anderson needs Sherlock for.

I've already thanked Ariane yesterday but I must thank you too. You're so kind to think about non-native speakers so often. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! :-)

Thanks so much! I do love the music but sometimes it's so loud compared to the voices that I have trouble understanding what is said, so I really appreciate this.
